Reflecting on Mentorship: Insights from The CGT Circle Mentoring Panel

Bethany Latham, Researcher, SCi Partners

Last month, I had the privilege of attending The CGT Circle Mentoring Panel event, held at the PA Consulting offices and expertly chaired by Gloria Lam. It was an illuminating experience, bringing together a diverse group of individuals passionate about mentorship and professional development.

The panel discussion provided valuable insights into the nuances of mentorship, with each panelist offering a unique perspective. One particular viewpoint that resonated deeply with me was Tamsin’s emphasis on the distinction between mentors and advisers. Instead of seeking traditional mentorship, Tamsin advocated for curating a network of advisers whose insights align with one’s goals and values. This notion of quality over quantity underscores the importance of selective mentorship, where the voices providing guidance are carefully chosen for maximum impact.

Indeed, the event served as a reminder that mentorship is not a one-size-fits-all concept. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. By being intentional about the mentorship relationships we cultivate, we can ensure that the guidance we receive is truly valuable and relevant to our individual journeys.

I extend my sincere gratitude to the panelists – Ranna, Anji, Hilary, and Tamsin – for sharing their wisdom and experiences with us. Their insights have undoubtedly enriched my understanding of mentorship and its various forms.

I would also like to express appreciation to Kate, Nicola, and Lindsey for their tireless efforts in providing a platform for these important conversations to take place. The CGT Circle Mentoring Panel event was not only an opportunity for learning but also a testament to the power of community and collaboration in fostering professional growth.

As I reflect on the discussions and revelations from the event, I am inspired to continue my journey of self-discovery and mentorship, guided by the invaluable lessons shared by the panelists and fellow attendees.

Here’s to embracing the transformative power of mentorship, one carefully curated relationship at a time.
